Macin mountains and Danube Delta

Having a maximum high over 460 m Macin Mountains is showing an impressive outline, with their peaks growing suddenly near Danube. We need to mention that the difference of altitude between the Danube meadow and the main chain is considerable big and the rocky peak of Pricopan reproduces on a smaller scale, the proud of Meridional Carpathian Ridges (Fagaras Mountains).

ITINERARY

Bird-watching in Macin Mountains and Danube Delta. This tour is for active birdwatchers, those who can hike few hours carrying the tent, photo camera and gear or paddle in the Danube Delta.

Day 1. hiking on Macin Mountains

Transfer by car/minibus towards Macin Mountains National Park: Bucharest Airport Otopeni – Braila – Smardan– Luncavita – Valea Fagilor Nature Rezerve.

Pitching the tents. Stay over night (height: 100 m)

The Macin Mountains Protected Area is situated in one of Europe’s most outstanding natural regions, and can be considered to be a key component of the natural heritage of both Romania and the rest of the world. The richness of its biodiversity, its size and its location gives it the potential to become one of the regions more important protected areas.

Day 2. Hiking through the European beech (Fagus sylvatica) forest

Hiking through the European beech (Fagus sylvatica) forest towards the Tutuiatu Peak (467 m), the highest altitude of Dobrogea and Ioanesu Peak. Camping area at five minutes from Ioanesu Peak.

  • After breakfast (included) we leave our camp site, taking the tents with us.
    An easy hiking follows, for about 6 (six) hours
  • Height difference: 367 m

    In the evening we set our camp and enjoy the great view next to the campfire

Day 3. Hiking on Măcin Mountains

Hiking toward Greci village and Pricopan Ridge. Pitching the tents in the Piatra Râioasa Peak area (height: 200 m). Stay over night.

  • Visiting Greci Village(a large community of ex stone workers community), the Sulucu Mare Peak (370 m) and Pricopan Summit, the Dinosaurus and “The Sleeping Girl” (granite rock formations)
  • In the evening we set our camp next to Piatra Raioasa Peak

Day 4. Macin – Tulcea – Danube Delta

Unpitching the tents and leaving the campsite for the Town of Macin(2h hike). Transfer by public minibus to the city of Tulcea and to Crisan (a typical Danube Delta village) by ferryboat. A canoe training, a little practicing and canoeing for Caraorman channel sleeping spot (south from Crisan).

  • Camping on a sandy beach on the side of Caraorman Chanel in the hart of the delta

Day 5. Canoeing in Danube Delta

Caraorman Chanel – Suez Chanel – Perivolovca Chanel – Litcov Chanel – Cuibul cu Lebede Lake (Nest of Swans Lake)

Day 6. Canoeing & Birdwatching in Danube Delta

  • Camping in Crisan village next to a traditional lipovan house

Day 7. Leaving Danube Delta, transfer to Bucharest

Crisan –Tulcea – Bucharest

  • We wake up early in the morning and raise the camp.
  • Breakfast(included)
  • Transfer by ferry to Tulcea at 8:00
  • Lunch(not included)
  • Transfer from Tulcea to Bucharest by minibus and arrival in Bucharest around 17:00(270 km).
