Bucegi is the most accessible and perhaps the most popular massif in Romania. Its impressive craggy peaks rise up steeply to the west of the Prahova Valley. Behind this rocky facade, however, lies a plateau that makes walking along the length of the Bucegi very easy.
Piatra Craiului National Park (King’s Rock) features the longest and highest limestone ridge in the country and is a paradise for thrill – seeking hikers, the 22 km long is like a gigantic rocky playground.
Day 1. Arrival to Henri Coanda International Airport (Otopeni) and transfer by bus to your accommodation at Padina Hut
The group will meet the guide, and will be transported by bus to Padina Hut, located in Bucegi Mountains (around 2.5 – 3 hours). Depending on your
arrival time, we will stop for a lunch break.
Day 2. Padina Hut – Bucegiul Calcaros – return to Padina Hut, 9 – 11 hours
Bucegi Mountains are located in the center of the Carpathian Mountains and like we already said, they are considered a symbol of the Romanian spirit.
In this day we will hike through a special geological area called “Bucegiul calcaros”, we will walk the edges of Grohotis and Batrana at altitudes higher than 2000 m from where we will have scenic views over the central part of Bucegi, but also over the surrounding mountains: Leaota (The stone of the Prince). The route leads us to the refuge from the old saddle about 2130 m,
from where we have two options to descent through the west or east through Valea Doamnele. We will choose the most suitable one, depending on the weather conditions.
Day 3. Padina Hut – Pestera – Cable Car – Babele – Omu Peak – Valea Ialomitei – return to Padina Hut, 10 – 12 hour
Early in the morning, we will start our hike in Bucegi from Padina Hut (1525m). The trail goes through the Ialomita Valley to the Pestera Hotel. From there will take the cable car up to the plateau of the Bucegi Mountains (2200 m). Here we will see the Sphinx and the Babele with their natural rock sculptures (through their shapes sometimes they makes us wonder if the prehistoric people had a role in shaping them). We will head towards the highest peak (2505 m) of the massif: the Omu Peak. We will have a splendid view over the Carpathian chain, including Piatra Craiului Mountains (our next hiking objective for the coming days). The descending
trail will go along the Ialomita Valley , with a beautiful view offered by the
Ialomita Waterfall. In case of bad weather, there is the possibility of retreat
at a certain point on the route.
Day 4. Padina Hut – Botorog Fountain – Curmatura – Piatra Mica Peak – Curmatura Hut, 5 hours hike
This will be the day for an amazing hike in Piatra Craiului National Park (King’s Rock), a paradise for thrill – seeking hikers, a limestone jewel.
Piatra Craiului Mountains has more technical trails and our recommendation is: all the hikers to be equipped with a helmet, there is a risk of falling stones.
After breakfast, we will be transferred by bus to Botorog Fountain (about 1.5 – 2 hours). We will arrive at Curmatura Hut in the afternoon, we’ll
have lunch there.
After lunch, we will start our climbing to Piatra Mica Peak (Small Rock Peak) 1816 m.
There will be a short section with cables, but without big technical difficulties. Our descend we’ll go through Poiana Zanoaga from where we will reach Curmatura Hut for dinner and accommodation for the night.
Day 5. Curmatura Hut – Turnu Peak – return to Curmatura Hut, 8 – 10 hours
This will be the day to climb the main ridge, up to Turnu Peak 1911m.
We’ll go south on a sharp limestone blade towards the Sharp Peak 2150
m.
There will be some technical challenges, but these sections are secured with cables and the guides will be with you. Depending on the weather conditions and the physical conditions of the hikers, there will be a possibility for a faster descent.
Day 6. Curmatura Hut – Botorog’s Fountain – Bucharest
