Looking for an active tour in Romania? We have a 10 day active tour that will take you across the beautiful Fagaras mountains, perfect for hiking.

First contact with Romania will be at Bucharest with a walking tour. Curtea de Arges monastery, Vidraru Dam and Cozia Monastery will be seen on the way to Sibiu. The third day will be dedicated to Sibiu city and its museums. Next day we will go to Balea Lake for hiking Fagaras Mountains: Capra Lake, Caltun Lake and Negoiu peak (2.535 m) the second highest peak in Romania. In the sixth day we will visit Sambata Monastery, Brasov city, Rasnov Castle and Bran Castle (Dracula’s castle). On the way to Sinaia we will do a hike in the Bucegi Mountains. We will visit Sinaia Monastery and Peles Castle (the summer residence of Romanian Royal family) in Sinaia.

Itinerary

Day 1: Otopeni International Airport-Bucharest

Transfer to your hotel in Bucharest. Revolution walking tour will take you to the hot spots of Romanian revolution in 1989: Palace Square, former Headquarters of Romanian Communist Party, University Square. Architecture monuments will complete the tour: Kretulescu church, Revolution Memorial, Bucharest University, Military Cultural Centre and the Romanian Athenaeum.

Day 2: Bucharest – Curtea de Arges – Sibiu

After breakfast we start our tour with a visit of Curtea de Arges Monastery, chosen by the Royal family as the burial place. Then we head to Vidraru Dam, which was built in 1965 on Arges River, it is 166 m high and 305 m long. We continue with a visit of  Cozia Monastery which was built in 1836 by the Romanian king Mircea cel Batran.

Day 3: Sibiu

Enjoy Breakfast and then we start a tour of Sibiu.

We will visit the ASTRA Village Museum where you can see original monuments representative for the Romanian village values system. The museum’s patrimony has about 340 original constructions and over 35240 objects.

We continue with a walking tour in the center of the town, visiting the Big Square (1411), the Council Tower, the Brukenthal Museum in the late baroque style and the Evangelical Church (14th century).

Day 4: Sibiu – Avrig – Cârțișoara – Bâlea Lake

After the breakfast we transfer to Avrig to see the ruins of a citadel (1200) and a church from 1265 (Romanic style) guarded by a defender wall (14th C).

We continue to Cartisoara and then to Balea Lake, situated on the glacial Balea caldera at an altitude of 2027m. Our active tour in Romania continues with a hike to Capra glacial lake. (3-4 hours).

Overnight at the Balea Lake Mountain Lodge (2200 m).

Day 5: Bâlea Lake

This will be a hiking day. After breakfast we hike to the Negoiu peak (2 535 m), the second highest peak in Romania (5-6 hours). On the way to Negoiu you will pass by Laitel peak and Caltun glacial lake. After a picnic lunch and we will take the same way to return. 

Overnight at the Balea Lake Mountain Lodge (2200m).

Day 6: Bâlea Lake – Brașov – Râșnov – Bran Castle – Moeciu

Brasov Old TownAfter your last breakfast in a mountain lodge, we will head to Brasov.

On the way we will stop for a visit at Sambata Monastery (17th C).

Brasov is the 4th biggest city in Romania. During our walking tour of the old town centre, we will visit: the Black Church (14th C), the Council Square, and the Rope Street (the narrowest in Romania), the Town Hall presently the Historical Museum.

Our next site will be Rasnov Fortress with its simple architecture, stone and brick was used for the walls and houses but built on top of a hill overlooking the valley where the town is.

Then we head to Bran to visit the so called Dracula’s Castle, finished in the 14th century in a Gothic style.

Day 7: Moeciu – Bucegi Mountains – Moeciu

Enjoy Breakfast and get ready to hike the highest peak of Bucegi Mountains (Omu peak 2505 m). The path leaves from Bran village and follows Gaura glacial valley until its end under Omu peak. We will stop for a Picnic lunch at Omu chalet, the highest accommodation unit in Romania, situated right on top. The return path will be the same through Gaura Valley.

The total time of hiking is 7-8 hours.

Day 8: Hiking in Bucegi Mountains – Predeal – Sinaia

Breakfast will be followed by a transfer to Predeal Mountain Resort. We will hike form the place named “Sipote” to Diham chalet. After a short break we will continue to the clearing named “Pichetul Rosu“(the Red Picket) the former border between Romania and Transylvania.

From here we continue to Busteni resort, passing the Costila valley. The hike will end the hike at Busteni after 4-6 hours.

Day 9: Sinaia (hiking in Bucegi Mountains or Baiului Mountains)

Active tour in Romania - Peles Castle in Sinaia

After breakfast, we will explore Sinaia, the former Royal city, where we will visit the famous Peles Castle, which was the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family.

After this, we will continue our active tour in Romania with a hike in the Bucegi Mountains (6-7 hours). We visit Poiana Stanii (Sheepfold’s Clearing). From Poiana Stanii we take the path through the forest and we pass Piatra Arsa (Burnt Rock) and Cota 2000, then  we will descend to Sinaia.

Day 10: End of the active tour in Romania, transfer to Bucharest / airport

Breakfast. Last contact with Romania, the last opportunity for souvenirs and gifts shopping.

Transfer to Bucharest and to the Otopeni International Airport according to the flight schedule.
